Adi's HiFi Blog

The HiFi topic has been on my mind for years, with everything that goes with it. During this time I have listened to, tested and reported on a number of devices on various social media channels.

I have summarized the previous test reports here for you to read. At irregular intervals I try to keep a small HiFi blog as long as I have time.
The content relates to my personal experiences in testing and listening and may not be consistent with others.

You also find guides, e.g. for preparing digital music collections, Roon and much more, with more to follow.

Please allow some time until all of my Blogs are also available in english. If one is missing check back later.
I hope you enjoy reading here, and if you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

HiMedia Q10 Pro

The Himedia Q10 Pro is a compact, great thing with many advantages and some disadvantages.

For me, who listens to music more than 50% of the time (via Kodi), the player has a number of weak points. All music in HiRes (i.e. 24-bit, 46/96/192kHz) is down-sampled by the system to 16bit-48kHz (max).
This is not only unpleasant but clearly audible.

The video part (Kodi 17.0 Beta 3) with wrapper plays everything smoothly and supports all formats, including DTS: You always have to laboriously press OK on an external video player when it switches back to Kodi.
The remote control also lacks a classic STOP button.
You can record it "artificially", for example 0, but it's no fun. (TIP: you can control Kodi normally with an external keyboard, so X is the stop key).

Given the price and the many positive praises, my conclusion is somewhat clouded.

In addition to the things mentioned above, Netflix is also not available in UHD quality. I found it rather surprising because the HDR demo clips were all recognized and displayed as HDR by the LG OLED.
With Dolby Vision (it was originally written that this was possible) the file is played, but not as DV and not as HDR as expected.

So not all of my expectations were met, but the Q10 Pro is a cheap and great player for normal OTTO users, which can be upgraded to a standalone entertainment center via an internal HD.

I'll probably get a GTX1060 and upgrade my existing HTPC with HDR capabilities so that I can continue to use multi-channel FLAC playback and HiRes music.

Good week everyone.
